Four Guitars, one maker

It doesn't happen often that I have four of my guitars in the shop. These new ones will soon be shipped to dealers and new owners, so I thought I'd take the chance and whip something up with them. It is far from perfect and I wish I had more time to set it all up and practice properly, but I like the end result, it's honest!

The recording was done with one large condenser Rode microphone going through a Motu Ultralite, there is almost no post-processing, save for a bit of reverb on the Roe and Thames tracks. The video is shot on two Canon dslr cameras.

Enjoy!

Summer 2017 and upcoming shows

Well, here we are... the updates on this blog are as sparse as the hair on my head these days. With facebook and the likes I end up posting more on social platforms than here... but it's good to add some updates every now and then.

So what have I been up to? The workshop had some major upgrades, I sorted out all my wood stash to make sure I was ok with new CITES rosewood regulations, and I started building a few new models for the upcoming shows.

I'll be exhibiting in Cremona at Mondomusica (sept 29th - oct 1st) where I'll also be on translation duties for the luthiers' seminar with buddy Jason Kostal

For my american friends, I'll be at the Woodstock invitational luthiers shocase in the fall, oct 27-29, and I just received confermation that I have been accepted at the Holy Grail Show in Berlin, may 2018.

Come see me and my guitars!

Don Alder with a Maxmonte HG @ Salti di Tono

During his concert @ Salti di Tono music center with Luca Francioso, Don Alder, canadian fingerstyle virtuoso, asked to play a short piece on my latest harp guitar. The instrument does not have any pickup system on board, so he just used his vocal microphone, and it sounds pretty good already!

Blues video lesson - Michele Lideo

A nice little instructional video with my model Thames recorded by fingerstyle player Michele Lideo.

Check it out!

This particular guitar was especially voiced for projection and classic blues playing, with a nice dry puncy sound.

Scarf joint prep

Another peek at what happens in the lab. This is me prepping and glueing the scarf joint on the neck's headstock. This particular joint is one of the many places where I use hot hide glue... It's strong, it does not slip as much as modern glues when clamped, it resists heat well. Just a bit more work for many advantages :)

Long overdue updates

Hi there my friends on the cyberweb! I have not posted here in a LONG time and for that I apologize.

I just updated the site with a new harp guitar model, my take on a nylon strung instrument... check it out on the HGN page. I really like the shape, especially the arm and the harp head... it reminds me of a head from Alien!

I have a new Danube on the bench which will be something special... but for now the rosette inlay is giving me quite a few headaches! Stay tuned for more info on this new project.danube pieces

Vika's Tune

Stephen Bennett's ability to craft beatiful melodies is a gift that keeps on giving. Another great tune from his "Still on the line" cd, available on his website www.harpguitar.com.

He plays his Maxmonte Columbia in cedar/indian rosewood combo, a very sweet guitar!
